John Nakatsu

My design journey began as a wedding photographer and videographer. Over 10 years later, I continue to work professionally as a freelance photographer specializing in commercial product and food photography. Along the way I found myself branching out into design work, which ultimately led me to pursue a career in graphic design. Currently enrolled at the Seattle Central Creative Academy, I am preparing to graduate at the end of Spring 2021.

More than a decade of experience behind a camera has developed a keen eye for color, composition and storytelling that has helped me succeed in transitioning to graphic design. Education at Seattle Central Creative Academy has taught me the essential fundamentals and technical skills to be confident in the design industry. During the course of the program I have learned about the importance of Human-Centered Design, critical Design Thinking, and accessibility.

Most recently my focus has been on refining my skills in motion graphics and design. Motion has given me the unique opportunity to combine a background in videography and photography with graphic design. As I continue to develop and learn, I hope to expand into the world of 3D motion design.

In addition to hundreds of amazing newlyweds, over the years I have been fortunate to work for numerous clients including Fran's Chocolates, Bittyfish Sushi, Elemental Pizza, A'PEXi USA, and Intec Racing.
